Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced an important phone conversation with Steve Witkoff, the U.S. President's special representative, and his son-in-law, influential Washington political analyst Jared Kushner. The primary goal of the conversation was to discuss possibilities for peacefully resolving the prolonged conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
Zelensky emphasized that the phone conversation was highly meaningful and extremely beneficial.
“During our discussion, we focused on several important aspects, and most importantly, extensively deliberated on decisive issues aimed at stopping bloodshed,” the president wrote on his Telegram channel.
He mentioned that the parties reached a common understanding regarding future steps and a new format for Ukraine-U.S. dialogue. The priority areas include increasing the effectiveness of negotiations, ensuring security, and gradually de-escalating the conflict.
The significance of the discussion was further underscored by the participation of Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, and General Andriy Hnatov, Chief of the General Staff.
As highlighted by Zelensky, Ukraine is striving to bolster diplomatic activity and strengthen its position on the international stage amid the current crisis. In his view, close cooperation with Washington remains one of the critical factors in achieving peace.
