According to US officials, international forces could be deployed to the Gaza Strip early next year. Their task is to maintain peace and ensure stability. So far, it is unclear how Hamas will be disarmed.
The international forces will not fight Hamas. Many countries are ready to participate, and US officials are discussing the number, composition, deployment, and preparation of the forces. An American general is considered to lead the forces, but no final decision has been made.
In the first phase, a fragile ceasefire was established on October 10: Hamas released hostages, and Israel freed detained Palestinians. The international forces will be deployed in Israeli-controlled areas, and Gaza will be gradually disarmed.
Indonesia has announced it is ready to send 20,000 troops for health and construction tasks. The UN Security Council approved the creation of the forces and the disarmament of Gaza. Hamas has not officially discussed giving up its weapons and says it will do so only after a Palestinian state is established.
