Saudi Arabia Sees Record Number of Death Sentences

The number of death sentences in Saudi Arabia has reached a record level this year. According to reports, at least 347 people were sentenced to death in 2025. This exceeds the 2024 record of 345 and marks the bloodiest year in the country’s history.

Among those executed were foreign nationals, journalists, and people who committed crimes as minors. Two-thirds were convicted of drug-related offenses. Five women were also sentenced to death. Many of these cases violate UN international standards.

The Saudi government has not commented on the rise in executions. Organizations and experts note that torture and forced confessions are widespread in the justice system. Families are not informed before executions, and bodies are not returned, raising serious human rights concerns.

Experts and international organizations are calling on Saudi Arabia to temporarily halt executions, ensure legal and consular support for all prisoners, inform families, and make execution information public. At the same time, social and economic reforms continue, but the human rights situation remains deeply concerning.
