In the northeastern regions of the United States, heavy snowfall and icy weather caused difficulties in daily life. States of emergency were declared in New York and New Jersey to ensure public safety. Officials urged people to be careful and avoid traveling if possible.
According to reports, some areas received up to 15–25 centimeters of snow. In New York City, a noticeable amount of snow also fell overnight, making roads and sidewalks slippery. Although the heavy snowfall has mostly stopped, weather conditions remain dangerous.
Due to the bad weather, thousands of flights were canceled or delayed. Problems were especially common at major airports around New York. Some airlines allowed passengers to change their tickets without penalties.
In addition, traffic was temporarily restricted on several roads. Officials are asking drivers to be cautious and avoid travel unless necessary. The weather is said to be gradually improving, but warnings to stay alert continue.
