Trump did not reject the military option for Iran: warships are on their way

US President Donald Trump once again refused to answer questions about the possibility of military actions against Iran. According to him, Washington has a plan of action "just in case," and the enormous US fleet is being deployed depending on the situation in the region.
Trump shared these thoughts with journalists on Thursday, January 22nd, while returning from the World Economic Forum in Davos. "We have an armada - a large fleet is moving there just in case. Maybe it won't have to be used. We'll see," the White House leader said.
At the same time, Trump emphasized that he does not want to use force against Tehran. "We are closely monitoring Iran," he said, noting that the situation is under control.
Reuters, citing US officials who asked for anonymity, reports that several destroyers with guided missiles, accompanied by the carrier "Abraham Lincoln," are expected to arrive in the Middle East in the coming days. One source said that additional air defense systems could be deployed in the region to protect US bases from potential strikes.
These statements were made against the backdrop of mass protests that began in Iran at the end of December 2025 and their brutal suppression. According to data from the US-based HRANA human rights network, it has been confirmed that 5002 people died during the suppression of the demonstrations. Among them were 4,714 demonstrators, 207 government officials, 42 minors, and 39 random individuals. In addition, it was reported that the investigation of another 9,787 deaths is ongoing.
A representative of the Iranian government, speaking to Reuters on a confidential basis, also cited a similar figure: at least 5,000 people were killed, including approximately 500 law enforcement officers. It is also said that this official tried to shift the responsibility for the death of "innocent Iranians" onto the protesters.
According to HRANA activists, approximately 26,800 people were arrested. Iranian state media also reported numerous arrests in several regions of the country in recent days.
It's worth noting that Trump had previously spoken in a harsh tone, saying that Tehran could face "unprecedented strikes" if the Iranian government began mass killing protesters, and that aid to the protesters was "on the way." However, on January 16, he spoke in a relatively gentle tone, stating that "Iran has canceled the hanging of more than 800 people."
At the same time, the Trump administration did not stop preparing for the military scenario. The Axios publication, citing sources, noted that the decision on the strikes has been postponed, but the military option has not been completely removed from the agenda.
For now, the main question is: is Washington trying to increase pressure with a signal that the "flot is moving" and achieve a diplomatic result, or will events really move to a new level? Trump's "we'll see" statement, as usual, left the biggest uncertainty.
