Trump asked Putin to stop striking Ukraine due to winter cold

US President Donald Trump spoke about his conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin at a cabinet meeting in the White House. He said that against the backdrop of a harsh winter, he asked Putin to suspend strikes on Ukraine for a week, and the Russian leader agreed to this proposal. Trump did not specify when this conversation took place, but emphasized that "it was very pleasant."
At the same time, a number of sources noted that Trump's statement did not receive immediate confirmation from official Moscow. That is, for now, it's mainly circulating as Trump said.
Does a cold shock mean "communal stress"?
As noted in the text, there are reports that the Russian side continues to carry out massive strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Serious interruptions in electricity, heat, and water supply were observed in major cities such as Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odessa, especially due to attacks between the beginning of winter and mid-winter. As a result of missile and drone attacks on substations, power plants, and transmission networks, thousands of homes are reportedly left without heat and light in severe frost.
The issue here is not "only the front" - if the heat goes out in winter, this is not a game for people, but a real test. That's why Trump is explaining this with a "humanitarian" reason.
Is the end of the war near?
At the meeting, Trump also made another claim: Special Representative Steve Whitkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner are "working very hard," so the war in Ukraine is nearing its end. He also noted that his administration "has stopped eight wars," and another one is on the verge of ending.
The conclusion is simple: Trump's statement resonated greatly, but the most important thing in such statements is practical steps and official confirmations in recent days. If the "week stop" really works, it will be a breather break even for ordinary people during the coldest part of winter.
