Explosion in front of mosque in Islamabad: death toll rises

A powerful explosion that occurred in Islamabad after Friday prayers caused significant damage. Initial reports indicated 24 deaths and more than 100 injuries, but later official data indicated that the number of victims reached at least 31, and the number of wounded was around 169 - the figures are still being clarified.
According to local law enforcement agencies, the attack occurred in front of the mosque gate: it is said that when the suspect was stopped, he detonated an explosive device mounted on his body. Emergency services are working at the scene, the injured have been taken to hospitals, and some are reported to be in serious condition.

This explosion is a particularly serious signal for the capital: while attacks occur in countries like Pakistan, such incidents are rarely observed in Islamabad itself, which has strong security. It is said that Shahboz Sharif made a statement condemning the attack, and investigations and assistance measures are being taken at the state level.
Notably, sources report that the attack occurred in a mosque affiliated with a Shia community. Shias are a religious minority in the country, and historically, such bloody attacks have been directed against this particular stratum.

A similar incident in Islamabad was also recorded in the recent past: in November 2025, it was reported that at least 12 people died in an explosion near a courthouse, even then the terrorist version was considered the main one.
The most important thing now is to save the lives of the victims and quickly and transparently clarify all the details of the incident. In such tragedies, there is one truth: fear should not be turned into "normal." People have the right to pray peacefully.
