“Bishkek maniac” who killed 17-year-old girl found dead

In Bishkek, at Investigation Detention Center No.1, 41-year-old Kumarbek Abdirov, known as the “bishkek maniac,” was found dead. This was reported by “24.kg.”
According to the State Penitentiary Service, Abdirov’s body was discovered on February 7 around 12:30 in his cell. Preliminary information suggests he may have committed suicide. Pre-investigation checks have been initiated.
Abdirov was arrested in September 2025, accused of raping and killing 17-year-old Oysuluv Mukasheva. During the investigation, he admitted to raping and killing several women. His crimes were mainly committed in the outskirts of the city and in mountainous areas.
It is reported that in 2016, Abdirov was sentenced to 12 years for attempted murder, later reduced to 7 years, and he was released early in 2018.
After Oysuluv Mukasheva’s murder, Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov proposed reinstating the death penalty for serious crimes, but the Constitutional Court in December 2025 declared that this measure contradicts the Constitution and international obligations.
Additionally, three former judges of the Bishkek City Court and one prosecutor involved in Abdirov’s early release were also detained in connection with the case.
