Mojtaba Khamenei elected as Iran's new leader

Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been elected as the new Supreme Leader of Iran. The country's supreme religious council officially announced this. Following the decision, council members called on Iranians to maintain national unity and rally around the new leader. A statement released through state media emphasized that this selection was made through a rigorous voting process. Reports theguardian.com.
Mojtaba Khamenei's appointment marks the first time in history since the 1979 Islamic Revolution that supreme power has passed from father to son. This situation is expected to spark intense debate within the country regarding the formation of a dynastic governance system. Iran's armed forces and parliamentary leadership supported the decision, calling it a religious and national duty.
However, this appointment is causing sharp reactions internationally. US President Donald Trump called Mojtaba Khamenei an unacceptable candidate and emphasized that Washington must have a say in Iran's future political direction. The Israeli military stated that it would continue to pursue all of Ali Khamenei's successors. Analysts believe this decision could lead to further escalation of war in the region.
Yemeni Houthis congratulated the new leader, calling his election another victory for the Islamic Revolution. Although 56-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei has not held any elected office until now, he has been active at the center of Iranian power for many years.
