Iran's Foreign Ministry confirms Supreme Leader's injury

Iran's Foreign Ministry has officially confirmed that the country's newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, sustained injuries. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei shared the update in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, stating that the leader is injured but remains in good health. Reports Tengrinews.kz.

Baghaei noted that there is currently no scheduled date for Mojtaba Khamenei to address the nation. He also revealed that the Assembly of Experts selected him for the position from a pool of three or four potential candidates.

Previous media reports suggested that the new leader was wounded on February 28 during the initial wave of strikes by the United States and Israel. Sources indicate he may have suffered a leg injury, which, along with strict security protocols, explains his recent absence from the public eye.

The military operations launched by the US and Israel on February 28 aimed to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The ongoing conflict has resulted in at least 1,300 casualties, including the death of the former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. Following his death, the Assembly of Experts officially announced his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as his successor on March 9.
