NASA's Artemis II crew launches historic lunar orbit

NASA's Artemis-II mission has been announced to launch on April 1. Tomorrow, the Orion spacecraft will take four astronauts to the Moon, orbit it, and then return to Earth. The space agency plans to broadcast this historic journey live on its YouTube channel.

The flight will be carried out on a giant Space Launch System rocket. According to weather forecasts, the probability of favorable weather reaches 80 percent, so experts are also excited and optimistic. The reserve date for the flight is set for April 2.

The crew includes NASA astronauts Reed Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, as well as Jeremy Hansen from the Canadian Space Agency. If the launch goes well, the craft will approach the moon on April 6 and travel about 4,100 miles (6,600 kilometers) from its far side. They are scheduled to return to Earth on April 10.

The mission will last 9 days and 1 hour, covering a total distance of about 700,000 miles (1.1 million kilometers). The astronauts will be the first humans to see some of the moon's natural satellite up close as they fly by it. They will spend much of the day taking photos, videos, and observations.

The mission is a stepping stone and a key step toward landing humans on the moon in 2028, marking a new milestone in science, technology, and human exploration.
