Direct peace negotiations between Israel and Lebanon are starting…

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the decision to start direct negotiations with Lebanon soon. According to the Prime Minister’s statement, “After Lebanon called several times to start negotiations with Israel, yesterday I instructed the Cabinet of Ministers to start direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible.”

Netanyahu emphasized that the negotiations are primarily aimed at disarming the “Hezbollah” group and establishing long-term peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon.

According to Axios journalist Barak Ravid, Israeli officials noted that the start of negotiations does not automatically mean a ceasefire in Lebanon. At the same time, a senior Lebanese official told Reuters that Lebanon, within the last 24 hours, supported a temporary ceasefire in order to create conditions for broader negotiations.

A senior Israeli official told Axios that direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon will begin next week in Washington, and the “Hezbollah” group from Lebanon will not participate in the process.

Currently, the situation in the region remains complicated: on the night of April 8, the United States and Iran announced reaching a ceasefire agreement, but Israel continues to strike the “Hezbollah” group on Lebanese territory. The U.S. government stated that this agreement does not concern Lebanon. In addition, Lebanon still does not officially recognize the State of Israel.

These negotiations may create an opportunity to establish long-term peace in the region and mark a new stage in relations between Lebanon and Israel. The attention of the world community is focused on this process, and in the coming days the results will be important for all parties.
