A major project involving SpaceX in Kazakhstan has reached a new stage

Kazakhstan is preparing to implement a "Direct-to-Cell" satellite communication system in partnership with SpaceX and local mobile operators. Based on a memorandum signed during the C5+1 summit, initial technology trials are expected to take place by the end of 2025. The project is currently moving toward commercial use, pending final security clearances from national authorities to ensure stable and secure operations.
In response to a parliamentary inquiry, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of Kazakhstan Zhaslan Madiev reported that preparations for the implementation of the Direct-to-Cell satellite communication system are underway in the country.
He noted that this project is being implemented based on a memorandum signed on November 6, 2025, during the C5+1 summit between the ministry, mobile operators, and SpaceX. It was also noted that the first pilot tests of the technology were conducted at the end of 2025.
Currently, the project is being gradually prepared for commercial operation. At the same time, all necessary agreements with national security agencies are being implemented before its full launch. According to officials, this process is aimed at ensuring the stable and secure operation of the system.
