Belarus activates on border, risk of new tensions rises

The situation in the Eastern European region is becoming increasingly tense in recent days. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that according to intelligence data, Belarus has begun constructing infrastructure and equipping artillery positions in the border areas with Ukraine.

Zelenskyy emphasized that these actions are driven by Russia's attempts to once again involve Belarus in the conflict. In a statement on Telegram, he suggested that Moscow is aiming to regroup its military forces and compensate for personnel shortages through this move.

"We believe that Russia is trying to draw Belarus into its war once again," Zelenskyy wrote on his Telegram channel.

The Ukrainian leader also stated that a clear signal had been sent to the Belarusian government through diplomatic channels. According to him, Ukraine is fully prepared to defend its territory and independence and has the capability to respond to any threat.

Zelenskyy evaluated this situation within an international context, citing recent events involving Nicolas Maduro. In his view, such cases should serve as a warning signal for other states.

"The nature and consequences of the recent events in Venezuela should be a warning signal to the Belarusian leadership that mistakes cannot be made," he said.

For his part, Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko is not hiding plans to strengthen the country's military potential. At a meeting on the results of Armed Forces inspections in early April, he openly stated that the country is preparing for any possible conflict.

"If force is used against us, we will respond accordingly. That is why we are preparing now," Lukashenko said. According to him, there is a possibility to increase the size of the Belarusian army up to 500,000 personnel in the event of a potential conflict.

The Belarusian side explains these actions by the escalation of the geopolitical situation and threats near the borders. At the same time, Lukashenko previously emphasized that a potential attack on Belarus could be an "entry point to World War III."

Currently, the situation in the region remains uncertain. Experts believe that the crisis of trust between the parties and the increase in military activity could lead to a new stage of tension.
