Turkey bans social media for children under 15

Turkey has passed a new law restricting the use of social media by children under the age of 15.
According to the document, platforms are required to introduce age verification systems and provide parental control tools.
In addition, companies will be required to swiftly remove or restrict content deemed harmful, the AP news agency reported.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stressed that the decision was adopted to strengthen child safety and the protection of personal data.
It has been reported that the decision was prompted by a recent tragic incident in the city of Kahramanmaraş, where a 14-year-old teenager killed several people. Law enforcement agencies are also investigating his activity on social networks.
It is noted that similar restrictions were first introduced in Australia, and later Indonesia took the same step.
