75 Letters" Case: Former Kyrgyz officials interrogated by MIA

«75 maktub» ishi: Qirgʻizistonning sobiq amaldorlari IIVda soʻroq qilindi

The "75 Letters" incident, which caused a major stir in Kyrgyzstan's political circles, has entered a new phase. Former officials, who were once the country's most powerful figures, were interrogated for several hours by internal affairs agencies. Zamin.uz presents the details of this political process and the mysterious letter behind it.

Former "Major" Figures at the Center of the Investigation

According to lawyer Sherdor Abdikafarov, a number of prominent individuals were summoned to the Main Investigation Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan. Among them are:

  • Qamchibek Tashiyev — former head of the State Committee for National Security;

  • Nurlanbek Shakiyev (Turgunbek uulu) — former Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh;

  • Kurmankul Zulushev — former deputy.

These individuals were interrogated for several hours within the framework of serious charges, such as organizing mass unrest and attempting to seize state power by force.

What is the "75 Letter" and How Did It Begin?

This political tension was triggered by an appeal addressed to President Sadir Japarov in February 2026. At that time, 75 activists and politicians demanded that the head of state hold early presidential elections.

This appeal sparked a chain reaction in the country:

  1. Qamchibek Tashiyev was dismissed from his post.

  2. Speaker Nurlanbek Shakiyev and deputy Kurmankul Zulushev were forced to resign from their positions.

  3. The national security system was fundamentally reformed.

The Government's Firm Position

While reacting to the situation, President Sadir Japarov stated that Qamchibek Tashiyev denied any connection with the authors of the letter; however, the President openly declared that he has no intention of returning him to a state position in the near future.

At the same time, the country's Constitutional Court put an end to the issue of elections: the next presidential elections will be held only at the scheduled time — in January 2027.

The Process Continues

Currently, a number of activists who signed the letter have been arrested, and investigation processes are ongoing. The interrogation of former officials indicates the seriousness of this case.

Dear readers, do you think it is fair to evaluate political appeals as an attempted coup d'état? How will these changes in Kyrgyzstan affect regional stability?
