North Korea has announced that it will launch an automatic nuclear response in the event of an assassination attempt on Kim Jong Un or if the country's leadership system is threatened. This was reported by The Telegraph.
It is reported that relevant amendments have been made to the country's Constitution. According to the new rule, if a threat to the leadership arises, the army is required to act automatically to launch a nuclear strike.
Reports state that this decision was made against the backdrop of attacks carried out by the US and Israel against the Iranian leadership. It is noted that Pyongyang is attempting to strengthen its defense against "decapitation" tactics following the events in Iran.
Analysts believe that North Korea's potential nuclear response would likely be directed primarily at the US. It has also been reported that Kim Jong Un has ordered the deployment of new types of 155mm self-propelled artillery units near the South Korean border.
