Warming in the Strait of Hormuz pushes gold prices higher

Global financial markets are seeing renewed activity. At the center of these changes lies humanity's most reliable asset: gold. Against the backdrop of reports regarding a potential historic agreement between the White House and Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the price of the precious metal has risen significantly.

In today's trading on May 25, the spot price of gold per ounce reached $4,579 marking a triumphant rally. This represents a 1.6 percent increase in a single day. Later, buyer momentum eased slightly, and the price stabilized around $4,564. Nevertheless, these figures show that investor interest in gold remains high.

Hope and anxiety behind the negotiations

The influential Bloomberg publication writes that due to peace talks between the US and Iran, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important trade routes, could be restored. This has slightly eased the inflation fears that have been plaguing the global economy.

The Washington Post newspaper revealed even more interesting details. According to it:

Washington and Tehran officials are currently working intensely on a preliminary agreement that envisions a 60-day ceasefire and the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Why are investors cautious?

Despite this, international analysts recommend taking a realistic view of the situation. Market participants are currently adopting a "wait and see" approach. Investors want to see real guarantees regarding how committed the Iranian side will be to this agreement and their readiness for cooperation.

Furthermore, another major factor is affecting the gold market: the policy of the US Federal Reserve (Fed). If the Fed decides to raise interest rates further, it could change the trend for precious metals.

In any case, gold is once again proving its status as a "safe haven," and political processes in the coming days will determine its future trajectory.
