Alejandro Garnacho makes surprise move to Aston Villa

A sensational deal has been completed in the transfer market ahead of the new English Premier League season. Birmingham-based Aston Villa have officially announced the signing of Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho. The talented Argentine joined his new club initially on loan, though the deal includes an option to make the move permanent. This was reported by Goal.com in a report.
Unai Emery's side continues to overhaul their squad following a successful campaign last season. The 22-year-old has moved to Villa Park on a one-season loan agreement. According to Goal.com, Aston Villa has an obligation to buy the player permanently if he meets certain performance criteria in the 2026-27 season. In that event, a four-year personal contract has already been agreed upon.
Emery's new project and Garnacho's role
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery did not hide his satisfaction with the transfer. The coach emphasized that Alejandro Garnacho will play a key role in the team's future project. "We are delighted to have signed Alejandro. He is very talented and young, and most importantly, he has a strong desire to help our project," Emery said in an interview on the club's official website.Garnacho's time at Chelsea was not particularly successful. Having moved from Manchester United last September for £40 million, the player struggled to find his place at Stamford Bridge. Although he made 43 appearances across all competitions last season, he managed only 8 goals and 4 assists. The arrival of Morgan Rogers for a record £117 million accelerated the Argentine winger's departure.
Financial figures and Champions League preparation
Aston Villa have been very active in the current summer transfer window. Garnacho has become the team's fourth major signing. Previously, the club added players such as Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes, and Modou Keba Cisse. These transfers are being financed by the nearly £200 million generated from the sales of stars like Youri Tielemans and Donyell Malen. It is worth noting that Manchester United will also benefit from this transfer. According to the contract signed when the player moved to Chelsea in 2025, the "Red Devils" are entitled to a 10 percent share of his next permanent transfer fee. This means that if the Birmingham club converts the loan into a permanent deal, funds will also flow into the Mancunian treasury.
Aston Villa won the Europa League last season and finished fourth in the Premier League, securing a spot in the Champions League. Now, the team faces serious challenges ahead. Specifically, they will face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup on August 12. Garnacho is expected to make his debut for his new team in this prestigious match.
