For Schwarzenegger, the most profitable film turned out to be not “Terminator” but “Twins”
Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed the film that brought him the most income in his career — and surprisingly, it was not the iconic “Terminator”, but rather the 1988 comedy “Twins”. He spoke about this on Andy Cohen’s talk show Watch What Happens Live.
During the interview, the actor said:
“It was ‘Twins’, because at that time we got no payment. No salary, no fee. We simply agreed to take a percentage from the revenue. And that totally paid off — we made huge profits.”
Schwarzenegger did not disclose an exact number, but he emphasized that the amount exceeded 40 million dollars. According to him, this film was the most financially successful project of his career.
In “Twins”, Schwarzenegger portrays an ideal, naive and kind man who one day finds out he has a twin brother — a short, witty troublemaker. This second character was played by the well-known actor Danny DeVito.
The actor also mentioned that a sequel had been planned. The continuation, titled “Triplets”, was set to feature Eddie Murphy as the third brother. However, the original director Ivan Reitman passed away before filming began, and the project was shelved.
Earlier, Schwarzenegger said that he agreed to star in “Twins” without a fee in order to prove to film studios that he could also act in comedies. That decision paid off: despite a low budget, the movie earned over 200 million dollars worldwide and became a turning point in his acting career.
This case once again shows that not only famous franchises, but also creative risk and artistic intuition can lead to major financial success. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
