“Lilo & Stitch” became the record-breaking film of 2025
One of the most unexpected cinematic records of 2025 has been the tremendous success of the “Lilo & Stitch” remake. This project, produced by Disney Studios, earned over $950 million at the global box office, becoming the highest-grossing film of the year.

According to renowned outlet Deadline, the film grossed a total of $957.6 million. This result made it the most-watched film of 2025 not only in the U.S. but also in France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, and nearly every country in Latin America.

Disney’s success surpassed that of “Minecraft in Cinema,” which collected $954.9 million. Thus, both Hollywood films crossed the $900 million mark in 2025.

The “Lilo & Stitch” remake remained faithful to the original story: it tells the tale of a girl living with her sister on the Hawaiian Islands who one day meets a strange alien creature named Stitch. The beloved characters from the 2002 animated original were brought back to life for a new generation.

In the live-action adaptation, Stitch was portrayed once again by Chris Sanders, who had also voiced the character in earlier versions. The new Lilo was played by Maia Kealoha, while her sister Nani was portrayed by Sydney Elizabeth Agudong, who had previously starred in Netflix’s “On My Block” series.

The film also featured popular actors such as Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, and Hannah Waddingham.

Due to its high commercial success, Disney has officially confirmed the development of “Lilo & Stitch 2.” The project is currently in early development, with no details yet revealed about the cast or creative team.

Thus, a childhood favorite cartoon has become a modern-day blockbuster and continues to create new cinematic history.
