On August 10, the culture of Uzbekistan lost another great figure. Honored Worker of Culture of Uzbekistan, renowned director Abdurakhmon Abdunazarov, who left an indelible mark on Uzbek theatrical art, passed away at the age of 72.
Abdurakhmon Abdunazarov was born on March 10, 1954, in Khojaabad district of Andijan region. His childhood and youth were spent in a creative environment, in the spirit of deep respect and love for art. This love later became the foundation for dedicating his entire life to the theatrical stage and creative pursuits.
During his multifaceted career, the director worked productively in different years at the Andijan Regional Musical Theater, the Kashkadarya Regional Musical Theater, as well as in several other regional theaters and theaters of neighboring countries. In 1988, he founded the “Mulokot” theater studio in the city of Karshi. At that time, this studio became a school for creators seeking new directions, bringing a fresh breath and unique style to the stage.
Abdunazarov’s stage works — “Iron Woman,” “I Went to My Beloved One Night,” “Poisonous Life or Victims of Love,” “Well, Choose,” “Let’s Marry Bakhtiyor,” “Gulya + Erik,” “The Rich and…,” “Mother Earth” and dozens of other performances — occupy a special place in the history of Uzbek theatrical art. His works won the hearts of audiences with their unique humor, life-related drama, and plots with deep meaning.
Abdurakhmon Abdunazarov achieved great success not only on stage but also as a teacher. During his years as a teacher at the Andijan Regional College of Arts, he trained hundreds of young people in the secrets of theatrical art, shaping their life paths. Today, many actors and directors working in various theaters of Uzbekistan recognize him as one of their main mentors.
The cultural community and his students remember him not only as a professional and skillful director but also as a humane, sincere mentor who knew how to give special attention to each of his students. His death became a great loss not only for Uzbek theater but for the entire cultural society.
