Kajol met actor Ajay Devgn in 1994 during the filming of Gundaraj, and the two began dating. The media called them an “unlikely pair” because of their different personalities. Devgn explained their bond by saying, “We never did the usual ‘I love you’ routine. There was no proposal. We grew with each other. Marriage was never discussed, but it was always certain.”
The couple tied the knot on February 24, 1999, in a traditional Maharashtrian ceremony at Devgn’s home. Their wedding drew wide media attention, with some critics saying Kajol should not have married at the peak of her career. Kajol, however, clarified that she would not quit films, but would take on less work.
After marriage, Kajol moved into the Devgn family’s home in Juhu. Tabloids often linked Devgn with other actresses and predicted a divorce, but Kajol dismissed the rumors as baseless. She gave birth to daughter Nysa in 2003 and son Yug in 2010. Describing motherhood as “fabulous,” she said her children brought out “the best in her.” Since 2015, she has officially gone by the name Kajol Devgan.
