Turkish stars investigated for drug use released from custody

In Turkey’s show business, the incident that occurred yesterday, on October 8, caused a great public stir. The social media stars, actors, and artists who were taken for questioning by the gendarmerie in the morning were released by evening. This was reported by the local TV channel NTV.

According to the reports, the investigation was launched by the Department of Anti-Smuggling, Narcotics, and Economic Crimes under the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. It was stated that several celebrities were being examined on suspicion of drug use.

List of celebrities under investigation

According to the agency’s information, blood samples were taken from the following individuals: Dilan and Engin Polat, Irem Derici, Kubilay Aka, Kaan Yıldırım, Hadise Açıkgöz, Berrak Tüzünataç, Demet Evgar, Duygu Özaslan, Zeynep Meriç Aral, Özge Özpirinçci, and Mert Yazıcıoğlu.

Some of them were outside the country during the investigation, so the questioning has not yet been conducted with their participation.

Details of the operation

During the operation carried out by the gendarmerie, no one was formally arrested. The celebrities who were in Istanbul were taken to the provincial gendarmerie command, where their statements were recorded. Later, they were sent to the Forensic Medicine Institution for blood testing.

After the blood and hair analyses were completed, the celebrities were brought back under the escort of gendarmerie officers and released in the evening.

Reaction of the celebrities

The incident became a major topic of discussion on social media. Hadise said in her statement:

“I am also shocked by what is happening. Thankfully, it’s all behind us,” she said.

Singer Irem Derici held a press conference and promised to share the results of the tests with the public:

“I will go from neighborhood to neighborhood and share the clean results with you. Those who wrote about the investigation should also write about the results,” she said.

Derici’s lawyer, Ayşegül Mermer, added:

“So far, no official charges or documents have been presented. Once the process becomes clear, information will be shared with the public.”

The lawyer of Ziynet Sali, on the other hand, stated that his client was abroad and had no connection to this case:

“My client has never even smoked a cigarette in her life. Her inclusion in this case is likely a mistake.”

Investigations through blood analysis

According to experts, various samples are taken from the human body to detect the use of narcotic substances. The most commonly used methods are urine, blood, saliva, and hair testing.

Urine test: shows whether the substance was consumed within the last three days.
Blood test: used to determine the active substance in the body.
Saliva test: considered a convenient method under police supervision.
Hair test: detects long-term substance use, and traces may remain for up to six months.

The results can appear within a time frame of 15 minutes to three days, depending on the testing method.

Public opinion and aftermath of the scandal

Users of Turkish social networks describe this incident as a “major cleanup operation among celebrities.” While many believe in the innocence of the artists, others demand a broader investigation.

Thus, although no one has been officially charged so far, the test results remain at the center of attention of the Turkish media and the public.
