China imposes export curbs on critical minerals amid U.S. trade tensions
China Imposes Export Restrictions on Strategic Minerals. China has announced sweeping export restrictions on five key metals used in defense, clean energy, and other industries, in response to new 10% tariffs imposed by the United States. This move is seen as part of China's strategy to leverage its dominance in critical mineral extraction and processing.

Restricted Minerals by China:

Battery, lithium, and gallium processing technology
China has proposed restrictions on exporting technology used to refine lithium and gallium. The changes have not yet come into effect.

Antimony, gallium, germanium
In response to U.S. sanctions on its semiconductor sector, China banned the export of these metals to the United States while introducing licensing requirements for other buyers.

Rare earth magnet technology
In December 2023, China banned the export of rare earth magnet production technology, essential for EVs, wind turbines, and electronics.

Graphite
In October 2023, China required export permits for certain graphite products, which are crucial for electric vehicle batteries.
