Uzbekistan and Malaysia to implement $5 billion projects

Uzbekistan and Malaysia plan to implement more than 40 joint projects totaling over $5 billion (approximately 64.5 trillion UZS), Kursiv.media reported.

According to Bernama, mutual visits by the leaders of both nations played a crucial role in strengthening bilateral relations.

In May 2024, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim visited Uzbekistan for the first time in 16 years. Then in February 2025, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev made his first official visit to Malaysia in 20 years.

The publication notes that these historic visits and signed agreements mark a new chapter in the relations between the two countries.

Malaysia was among the first countries to recognize Uzbekistan’s independence in 1991. Diplomatic ties were officially established on January 21, 1992.
