Uzbekistan became the only country to sell gold in September

The global gold market showed a new trend in September - while most countries around the world increased their gold reserves, only Uzbekistan was noted as the only country that sold this metal. This is stated in the latest report of the World Gold Council.

According to the report, in September 2025, net gold purchases by world central banks amounted to 39 tons. This is the highest figure since the beginning of this year. In total, 43 tons of gold were purchased, with Brazil (15 tons), Kazakhstan (8 tons), and Guatemala (5 tons) leading among the main buyers.

In addition, countries such as Russia, Turkey, the Czech Republic, China, and Ghana have also increased their gold reserves to a small extent. But among them, only the Central Bank of Uzbekistan was mentioned as the sole seller - the country sold 4 tons of gold in September.

Experts note that this decision may have been made to ensure the stability of the national currency or to regulate the foreign economic balance. At the same time, Uzbekistan maintains its position as the world's largest gold seller with a total of 21 tons of gold sold this year.

Globally, total net gold purchases since the beginning of the year have reached 200 tons. This is slightly less than in the same period of 2024, when this figure was 215 tons.

Interestingly, just three months ago - in June - the Central Bank of Uzbekistan was recognized as the largest buyer of gold in the world. At that time, the country purchased 9 tons of gold, which was assessed by many economists as a policy of diversifying national reserves.

Thus, in 2025, Uzbekistan will actively participate in the international gold market as both a seller and a buyer, demonstrating a balanced approach to ensuring financial stability.
