Expert Advice on Choosing SPF

Expert Advice on Choosing SPF
With the arrival of summer, the topic of skin protection from the sun becomes relevant again. Sunscreens (SPF creams) are important not only to prevent skin damage but also to maintain its youth. Cosmetologist and aesthetic specialist Natalya Ryabinova shared her recommendations. According to her, the main criterion for choosing sunscreen should be the skin phototype.

What is a phototype and what does it affect?
Phototype is a type of skin defined by its structure and reaction to sunlight. According to Ryabinova, the lighter the skin, the higher the SPF protection factor should be. Each phototype requires a different SPF level:

1st and 2nd phototype: light skin, red or very light hair, blue or green eyes. This skin is very sensitive to the sun. Recommended SPF: 50+.

3rd and 4th phototype: medium dark skin, dark brown hair and eyes. This skin is more resistant to the sun. Recommended SPF: 30–50.

5th and 6th phototype: dark or very dark skin, very dark hair and eyes. This skin is the most resistant to UV. SPF 15–30 is sufficient.

Which cream form is suitable for which skin?
Ryabinova notes that not only SPF level but also the form of the product is important:

For dry skin – a dense and moisturizing cream is suitable.

For oily or combination skin – a fluid or emulsion is preferable.

For children’s skin – sunscreen in spray form is recommended for easier application.

A right step for a healthy life under the sun
Choosing the right sunscreen protects not only from burns but also delays skin aging, prevents pigmentation, dryness and allergies. That’s why everyone should know their skin type and choose a suitable product.
