A person lives, but every piece of our body continues to change. Nails are one of them. Although many have not noticed, the thickening and hardening of nails with age is a natural process.
According to experts, there are three main reasons for this:
1. Blood circulation slows down. With age, blood vessels constrict, resulting in insufficient oxygen and nutrient supply to the nail root. This slows down its growth and alters its structure.
2. Keratin levels increase. Nails are mainly composed of keratin. As age increases, the body begins to produce more keratin, which makes the nails hard and thick.
3. Influence of external factors. Work, household conditions, chemical agents, as well as pulling and blows affect the nail plate, hardening its structure.
According to doctors' recommendations, to keep your nails healthy:
- Always use moisturizing creams,
- Increase in the diet of products rich in biotin, zinc, and iron,
- you need to be careful with aggressive chemicals in your manicure.
Thick and hard nails are not a sign of aging - it is a manifestation of the natural defense mechanism in the body. It is recommended to consult a dermatologist only if there is excessive hardening or a raised lid.
