Food poisoning cases are increasing: alarming numbers among children!
In Uzbekistan, serious statistics related to food poisoning were recorded during the months of January–May 2025. According to information presented at a press conference held at AOKA with the participation of the leadership of the Committee for Sanitary-Epidemiological Peace and Public Health, 14 cases of poisoning were registered during this period, and 42 citizens were affected.

It is noted that the majority of these cases — specifically, 10 cases — were linked to home-made canned products, with botulism infections being recorded. Among the victims, 8 were children.

In addition, 3 other cases of foodborne toxic infections were identified, resulting in the hospitalization of 13 citizens, including 8 children. Furthermore, there was also 1 separate case of chemical poisoning.

According to official data, in 2024, out of 20,184 public catering establishments across the country, 1,512 (7.49%) were inspected. In 664 establishments (3.29%), violations of sanitary norms, rules, and hygiene standards were identified.

Such incidents pose a serious threat not only to public health but also to trust in the healthcare system. The high proportion of poisonings among children calls for greater vigilance from both parents and the public.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 600 million people around the world fall ill every year due to the consumption of toxic or poor-quality food. This once again confirms the need to strengthen food safety control.

Relevant authorities are calling on the public to exercise caution and strictly follow sanitary and hygiene rules when preparing canned food at home. It is emphasized that preventing such poisoning cases is a responsibility shared not only by government institutions but also by citizens themselves.
