ETRI researchers have developed an artificial intelligence (AI) tool for early screening of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), reported National Research Council of Science & Technology.
The “social interaction recognition AI” analyzes infants’ reactions to specific video content to detect early signs of ASD in as little as six minutes.
ASD symptoms include difficulties in social communication and repetitive behaviors. Early detection is vital for positive developmental outcomes.
Due to limited resources, diagnosis often takes 2–6 years. Yet, symptoms can appear as early as 12–24 months.
Researchers collaborated with Prof. Yoo Hee-Jung (Seoul National University Bundang Hospital) to analyze data from 3,531 infants aged 42 months or younger. Based on this, they created the world’s first “social interaction-inducing content” to observe behaviors like showing interest, responding to name, imitation, pointing, eye contact, etc. Read 'Zamin' on Telegram!
