The hidden danger behind the trendy tapioca tea

In recent years, the drink with bubbly tea or tapioca beans, which has become popular worldwide, has conquered social networks. But new research shows that this "fashionable" drink is not so harmless.

According to the New York Post, Consumer Reports specialists tested various brands and detected lead traces in each sample. Although the metal content did not exceed the permissible norm, its presence worried the experts.

The head of the research department, James Rogers, noted that these results do not require a complete refusal of tapioca tea, but indicate that it should not be consumed frequently. "The lead content in three of the four samples was at an alarming level. Therefore, it is better to consume such a drink not daily, but periodically," he said.

The main source of lead is manioc root, from which tapioca pearls are made. This plant absorbs heavy metals when growing in contaminated soil. Experts warn: even with a small amount of lead, its long-term effects can lead to negative health consequences.
