Is the “Cicada” strain a threat or is there no reason to worry?

A new strain of COVID-19, called “Cicada” (BA.3.2), has been reported in several countries in recent days. According to the World Health Organization, this variant has been identified in more than 20 countries, but it is not yet considered a serious epidemiological threat.
According to experts, the “Cicada” strain is mainly manifested by mild symptoms. It is similar to the Omicron type, causing symptoms such as a runny nose, cough, sore throat, and in some cases, loss of smell and taste.
According to information, this strain is more common among children. This is explained by the immunity developed in adults. At the same time, it is recommended to take precautions for people with chronic diseases, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems.
In Uzbekistan, the epidemiological situation is reported to be stable. The Ministry of Health has stated that the likelihood of the "Cicada" strain causing a large-scale epidemic is low, stressing that there is no reason for undue concern.
