Uzbekistan Senate approves new VAT rules for e-commerce

At the 15th plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, senators discussed a law aimed at regulating the e-commerce sector. This document intends to create a fair competitive environment and protect the rights of participants in an era of developing digital technologies. This is reported by Uzdaily.uz reports .

The law introduces significant amendments to the Tax Code and the Law "On E-commerce". Specifically, legal aspects of cross-border e-commerce, export and import of digital products, and payment execution are being solidified.

According to the new rules, subsidiary liability is established for e-commerce operators toward consumers. This serves to protect consumer rights and ensure safe online trading in cases where the seller fails to fulfill their obligations.

Senators noted that these measures create equal competitive conditions between local and foreign sellers. It is also intended to ensure the stability of tax revenues and align with international standards by involving local platforms as tax agents.

At the end of the discussions, the senators approved the law. The document will serve as a legal foundation for increasing transparency in the e-commerce market and further developing the sector.
