For the first time in history, women have started working as train drivers in the Tashkent Metro, reports Kursiv Media. Currently, they are undergoing practical training under the supervision of experienced mentors and are expected to begin operating trains independently soon.
The recruitment of women for the train driver position was announced in 2024 following a directive from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The selection process included interviews, medical examinations, and psychological assessments. Sixteen women, who previously worked in various departments of the metro system, were accepted.
Over 11 months, they underwent intensive training, studying operational rules, the technical structure of trains, and the principles of pneumatic equipment.
