The effective cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of Uzbekistan and Turkey once again bore fruit — a person suspected of a serious crime was detained and handed over to our country. This clearly showed how important international cooperation is in the fight against crime.
June 17, 2025, became one of the significant dates for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan and the Consulate General located in Istanbul, Turkey. On that day, a person who had been on the international wanted list for several months was detained in Istanbul and extradited to Uzbekistan according to the established legal procedure.
The detained person — I.U., born in 1981 — is accused under Article 135, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan (i.e., sexual violence against a minor). According to the information, he had been declared wanted by the Namangan regional Department of Internal Affairs.
After committing the crime, I.U. left the country and was hiding in Turkey. Based on operational data, a special operation was organized with the cooperation of the Department of Rapid Investigation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan and the first secretary of the Consulate General in Istanbul — the liaison officer for internal affairs.
This important operation demonstrated the great significance of trustworthy international cooperation between law enforcement bodies in apprehending criminals on the international wanted list. The Turkish side also actively participated in this matter, providing a legal basis for the arrest and extradition of the suspect.
At present, I.U. has been returned to Uzbekistan, and investigative actions are being carried out against him. This situation once again proves that criminals, no matter in which country they hide, cannot escape responsibility.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs expressed gratitude to the relevant Turkish authorities, particularly the Istanbul city administration and the police department, for their cooperation. It also highlighted the professionalism and responsibility shown by the staff of the Consulate General.
This event is important not only for the public of Uzbekistan but also for international law enforcement institutions. Because identifying such criminals in time and bringing them to justice is only possible through international cooperation.
This incident was widely covered in the media and positively received by the public. Internet users emphasized that such wanted individuals should not remain unpunished and expressed support for the activities of law enforcement agencies.
