Girl suffers facial injuries after being electrocuted after following cat tracks

A case of negligence in Andijan attracted the attention of the entire neighborhood. A 4-year-old girl, who hasn’t even started school yet, sustained severe facial burns near a transformer substation. The cause — her cat. Strongly attached to her pet, the girl followed it and, getting close to a dangerous area, became the victim of a short circuit, reports the press service of the regional company “Hududiy Elektr Tarmoqlari” in Andijan.

The incident occurred on July 13, 2025. It was recorded in the basement of a multi-storey residential building in one of the settlements of the region. The girl's cat ran into the basement. The girl followed and stopped at the door of the transformer cabin.

While the girl was watching through the gap where the cat entered, a short circuit occurred inside the high-voltage transformer operating at 35/0.4 kV with a capacity of 1000 kVA. The incident happened in seconds, and the girl’s face was burned by the powerful electric flash.

Help was immediately called. First aid was provided to the girl on site. Later, she was taken to the hospital by ambulance. According to doctors, there are burns on her facial skin, but her condition is stable. Timely medical intervention prevented further complications.

According to specialists, any gap, hole, or open door near a transformer substation that poses physical danger must be kept out of public access. It is especially important to prevent children from approaching such facilities, as it may lead to tragic consequences.

Local residents and neighbors are discussing the incident with sorrow and concern. The tragedy was caused simply by a cat and a small but uncovered gap in the transformer cabin.

Specialists from “Hududiy Elektr Tarmoqlari” stated that a technical inspection was immediately carried out after the incident. The condition of the cabin, surrounding protective barriers, and the alarm system are being re-evaluated. It is being investigated what error or negligence led to this outcome.

Currently, the child remains under medical supervision. She is conscious, eating, and her recovery after the burn is progressing successfully. Doctors note that the burned skin may gradually heal.

Law enforcement agencies have also begun their own investigation. If a violation of technical safety is discovered, those responsible will face appropriate consequences.

Citizens are once again advised not to let children near electrical installations and to increase supervision in households located near transformer stations. It is also emphasized that no one should remain indifferent to the state of such facilities.
