A tragic road accident occurred in Surkhandarya region, Uzun district. A 27-year-old driver of a Nexia 2 vehicle hit and killed an 8-year-old girl who was crossing the road at a pedestrian lane near a school.
Despite clear road signs indicating a school zone, the driver failed to reduce speed. During the trial, he explained that he was driving next to a large truck and the child suddenly ran out.
"I hit the brakes, but it was too late," the driver stated in court.
The court found him guilty and sentenced him to 5 years in prison and banned him from driving any vehicle for 2 years.
The victim’s mother asked the court for a harsher sentence, stating that her daughter used that path daily and she believed it was safe.
According to the verdict, the driver will serve his sentence in a settlement colony. This tragedy is a stark reminder of the responsibility drivers bear, especially near schools and pedestrian areas.
