In the city of Margilan, the chief specialist of the Preschool and School Education Department was caught taking a bribe. According to the State Security Service, he promised a citizen to help obtain the necessary license to open a kindergarten under a public-private partnership scheme.
Investigators revealed that the suspect claimed he would use his connections in the ministry to facilitate the process. Under this pretext, he demanded $2,000 as a “service fee.” The money was handed over directly in the suspect’s office.
During a special operation conducted by the State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, the official was caught red-handed while accepting the cash.
A criminal case has been opened under Articles 168 (“Fraud”) and 211 (“Receiving a bribe”) of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code. The suspect has been placed in custody while investigations continue. Officials stressed the government’s strict zero-tolerance policy toward corruption.
