The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Guard have introduced a new regulation aimed at ensuring public safety. According to the new joint resolution, patrol units with service dogs have begun operating in parks, recreation areas, and markets to prevent the illegal circulation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The Tashkent City Administration reported this.
Initially, pilot patrol units with service dogs started operating in Tashkent, Nukus, and regional centers. They perform special tasks focused on preventing crimes in crowded public areas.
According to the information, officers from the Tashkent City Police Department’s K9 Division are currently on duty at “Tashkent City Mall”, “City Park”, “Dream Park”, and “Magic City”. In addition to detecting narcotics, they help ensure citizens’ safety and assist in identifying and apprehending suspects.
Moreover, service dogs are used in situations where there is a potential threat of attack on civilians or law enforcement officers. They also assist in preventing detainees from escaping or causing harm to others.
Under the decision, the service duration for dogs is limited depending on the temperature: if the air temperature exceeds +30°C or drops below +1°C, their working time cannot exceed four hours.
Officials emphasize that this initiative is an important step not only in combating crime but also in maintaining peace and safety for citizens. Based on pilot results, the system may later be expanded to other cities and districts.
