For the first time in Uzbekistan, a liver transplant was performed on a 7-month-old baby, the Ministry of Health announced.
The operation was successfully carried out at the National Children's Medical Center, with the baby's mother serving as the donor. It was reported that Magfura Aminova, from Gurlan district in Khorezm region, stated that both she and her child are in good condition.
According to the director of the center, Baxtiyorjon Umarov, this type of procedure is only established in a handful of countries worldwide.
“Today marks a new chapter not only in the history of the National Children's Medical Center but also in Uzbekistan's medical history. For the first time, a liver transplant has been performed on a child under one year of age. This is a highly advanced procedure, implemented in very few countries globally,” he said.
It was noted that the mother and child are currently under medical supervision and are feeling well.
“The donor was the baby's mother, and a portion of her liver—specifically two segments—was transplanted. The patient's post-operative condition is very satisfactory. Today we discharged the mother, who is now completely healthy. The baby's condition is also very satisfactory. We are preparing to discharge the baby soon,” said Mansur Nosirov, the head of the center's department.
