Siddiqov arrested: Milliard-dollar embezzlement at Uzbekneftegaz

Former chairman of the board of JSC "Uzbekneftegaz" Bakhodir Siddikov was detained as a preventive measure. According to a Kun.uz source, he is suspected of embezzling state funds and other corruption offenses.
Today, January 27, at a meeting chaired by the president, it was noted that large-scale audits are being carried out in the Uzbekneftegaz system. It was reported that during the inspection, billions of soums were lost, and cases of large-scale embezzlement were identified.
At the meeting, it was also noted that the SSS Chairman was tasked with reviewing the responsibility of employees responsible for Uzbekneftegaz JSC. That is, the issue can not be limited to one or two persons, but can reach the chain of responsibility of the entire system.
It should be recalled that since mid-December last year, there have been dramatic changes in personnel in the energy sector. First, the Energy Security Representative of the President of Uzbekistan, Alisher Sultanov, was dismissed, and then the head of Uzbekneftegaz, Bakhodir Siddikov, was dismissed.

For information, Alisher Sultanov worked as the deputy chairman of "Uzbekneftegaz" in 2013-2015, and as the chairman of the company in 2015-2018. Since 2017, as Deputy Prime Minister, he has headed the geology, fuel and energy complex, chemical, petrochemical, and metallurgical industries. In 2019-2022, he was the Minister of Energy, and later moved to the position of Presidential Advisor.
Bakhodir Siddikov also headed Uzbekneftegaz in 2019-2020 and was reappointed to this position in 2023. At the time of his resignation in December 2025, it was said that he was "moving to another job."

Now, against the backdrop of inspection results and investigative actions, it is natural that this case remains in the spotlight not only for the industry but also for the public. Because we are not talking about simple figures - we are talking about state funds, trust, and responsibility.
