Two officials were caught taking bribes

Law enforcement officers in Kashkadarya region have uncovered a bribery case involving two local officials in Qarshi. The operation was carried out by the regional department of the State Security Service together with officers from the Department for Combating Economic Crimes.
According to the investigation, an assistant to the khokim working at one of the city’s neighborhood citizens’ assemblies demanded money from a resident born in 1983. In return for 1,000 US dollars, he allegedly promised to use his official contacts to register a 35-sotix plot of state reserve land as private property. The land had originally been allocated to the citizen by the city administration in 2019 under a lease agreement.
During the preliminary inquiry, officers found that the money was meant to be passed on to a leading specialist at the Qarshi city administration. The operation then continued, and that official was also detained while receiving the funds. Investigators said material evidence was collected at the scene.
A criminal case has been opened against the suspects, and investigative actions are now under way. The State Security Service also urged citizens who encounter similar violations in daily life to report them through its short hotline number, 1520, adding that the identity of callers will be kept confidential.
