A fraud case involving an individual posing as an employee of the electricity network enterprise has been uncovered in the Yunusabad district of Tashkent. An operational event was conducted by the Yunusabad district department of the Department under the Prosecutor General's Office in cooperation with other law enforcement agencies.
It is reported that a citizen, D.Y., posed as an employee of the electricity network enterprise. Using the pretext of an alleged direct connection to the power grid at the home of citizen F.B., he promised not to draw up an official report on the matter.
At the same time, he demanded 9.4 million soums from the citizen, claiming he would repair the electricity meter. During the operational event, the individual was caught red-handed while receiving the funds.
This incident serves as another reminder for citizens to remain vigilant. The documents, authority, and service IDs of any person claiming to represent utility services, power grids, or other official organizations must be verified. Some fraudsters attempt to extort money by intimidating people with threats of fines or official reports.
Law enforcement agencies announced that a criminal case has been initiated regarding this incident under Article 168 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to fraud. Investigative actions are currently underway.
Experts emphasize that if a genuine violation is detected, the process must be handled strictly through legal procedures and based on official documentation. Phrases such as "I won't file a report," "I will fix the meter myself," or "if you pay now, the case will be closed" are often signs of fraud.
