Clarence Seedorf wants to buy Rustam Ashurmatov
Rumors are swirling about the potential transfer of Uzbek defender Rustam Ashurmatov from Rubin Kazan to Iranian club Esteghlal, UPL.uz reported. Esteghlal’s sporting director is Dutch football legend Clarence Seedorf.

The Tehran-based club submitted an official bid, but Rubin is demanding over $700,000 — a sum too high for the Iranian side. Negotiations are currently on hold.

Seedorf is looking to rebuild the squad, and Ashurmatov is seen as a key piece in strengthening the defense. Uzbek midfielder Jaloliddin Masharipov may also leave the club soon.

Rubin has its own plans. Although Ashurmatov often remains on the bench, his contract runs through 2025. Neftchi Baku is also interested and may submit an offer after Uzbekistan’s upcoming international matches.

Neftchi previously tried to sign him in early 2025, but Rubin's coach blocked the move due to another defender’s injury. Some sources believe a pre-agreement exists between Rubin and Neftchi, which could cause tension if Esteghlal completes the transfer.
