Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba were at risk of disqualification for not participating in the MLS All-Star game, but no punishment was imposed on them. In that game, the MLS team won against the Liga MX stars 3-1.
"Messi felt natural fatigue due to the many games he played and the minutes he spent on the field. When players play every three days, they certainly feel discomfort. Lionel is returning. We hope he will start training with the team soon. Fortunately, no punishment was applied for this situation," said "Inter Miami" head coach Javier Mascherano.
He emphasized that events like the All-Star game are beneficial for the league, but he doesn't agree that a separate date should be set for them in the calendar.
"We played four out of the last five matches away. We’ve been playing almost every third day. The travels, the trips, the short breaks — it's a huge load for the players. The All-Star game should be held on Saturday or Sunday. When the game is played on Wednesday, and other teams have to take the field within 48 hours — that’s not right," concluded the Argentine coach.
Mascherano believes that the physical condition of the players and the burden of traveling make it difficult to conduct tournaments at a high level. Therefore, he urges the league to organize regular tournaments in a more convenient and suitable manner for the players.
If Messi and Alba can prepare for important games in their teams, their physical condition and ability to perform at a high level will greatly improve.
