Fabio Cannavaro's appointment as head coach of the Uzbekistan national team has sparked widespread discussion among the football community. Maxim Shatskikh, one of our national team's former leaders, also shared his thoughts on the arrival of the former world football star, an Italian specialist.
Shatskikh, who currently serves as the head coach of the "Andijan" club, carefully assessed the appointment of Cannavaro.
"I heard that Cannavaro has joined the national team. He is a person who has made a name for himself in world football, but I have hardly observed his work as a coach. Time will tell what kind of specialist he is. It's not right to judge the outcome now. If he showed a good result at the World Cup, then this decision was correct. If the results are not as expected, then conclusions can be drawn," Shatskikh said.
According to the former striker, one shouldn't rush to conclusions now. In his opinion, the preparations and friendly matches are only a test ground, and the real assessment is carried out through the World Cup matches.
Shatskikh also commented on the first game under Cannavaro - a friendly against Kuwait:
"I didn't watch the full match, but the 2-0 victory is a good result. It was known that the Uzbekistan national team is stronger than Kuwait. But it's not right to draw serious conclusions from a single game."
The former footballer also answered a question about what kind of coach is suitable for the national team:
"It's difficult to say anything definitive about this. The most important thing is the result. Tactics, style, how many goals to score or pass - these are not for discussion. Everything depends on the result. If there is a result, then there is development. If not, it means things aren't going right."
Shatskikh also mentioned that local specialist Timur Kapadze is working next to Cannavaro.
"I think this is the right decision. Kapadze can learn a lot from an experienced specialist. Working with Cannavaro will be a great lesson for him. This is a useful process for a young coach. It is natural that any experience will work in the future," he said at the end of the conversation.
Thus, according to Maksim Shatskikh, it takes time to assess Cannavaro's era - the results, the World Cup matches, and the team's development will give the real answer.
