According to Jose Barroso, a journalist from the French publication L’Equipe, Matvey Safonov is not expected to become the main goalkeeper of PSG under the leadership of Luis Enrique. According to Barroso, Enrique does not need a goalkeeper with the qualities of the Russian footballer.
"At the moment, Enrique does not need a goalkeeper like Safonov – it is not certain that Matvey will become the main goalkeeper at PSG. After that, it depends on the ambitions of the player," RB Sport reported, citing Barroso.
Barroso also did not rule out the possibility of Safonov leaving PSG. Previously, there had been reports that the footballer was expressing his dissatisfaction due to not being included in the PSG squad.
During the 2025/2026 season, Safonov has not played a single match for the team. In all matches, Lucas Chevalier guarded the goal.
