In the Turkish Super League this season, not only the championship but also the top scorer race has been very intense. The fight for the "Golden Boot" is taking place between a number of experienced forwards. Among them are stars invited to Turkish clubs from the strongest European leagues, as well as the captain of the Uzbekistan national team, Eldor Shomurodov.
By the 11th round of the season, Eldor Shomurodov, playing for Bashakshehir, is leading the scoring standings with seven goals. His performance is on par with Trabzonspor striker Paul Onuachu - both players scored 7 goals each. Currently, nine teams have completed their matches in the Super League, and the leaders maintain the lead in the table.
Eldor's result is not only a personal achievement, but also of great importance for Uzbek football. Because it is very important for the captain of the national team to be in good form before the qualifying stages of the next World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Interestingly, more than half of the 518 registered players in the Super League - 263 - are foreign players. Therefore, the competition in the top scorer race is not only local but also international in nature.
Our compatriot was noted as the leader in additional indicators. Shomurodov scored six of his seven goals during the game and one from a penalty, while his opponent, Paul Onuachu, scored twice from an 11-meter point. This further demonstrates Eldor's effectiveness and mobility.
The closest pursuers are Galatasaray star Mauro Icardi and Fenerbahçe forward Youssouf En-Nesyri, each with six goals. However, they couldn't score against their opponents in the final round. Icardi scored five goals in August and September, and only once in October. En-Nesyri scored twice against Genchlerbiligy and Gaziantep.
Among the leaders of the Turkish Super League, there are many stars who have spent most of their career in the "top-5" leagues of Europe. This has made the competition even more interesting and international.
Konyaspor forward Umut Nayir has also been added to the scoring list on his team's behalf. Although the 32-year-old experienced footballer previously played for Hajduk in the Croatian league for a year, he primarily played for Turkish clubs.
So far, four forwards with five goals each are in third place: Carlo Holse of Samsuntspor, Felipe Augusto of Trabzonspor, Rafa Silva of Beşiktaş, and Talisca of Fenerbahçe. They are also among the main rivals for the Golden Boot.
It should be recalled that at the beginning of the season, Eldor Shomurodov moved from the Italian club "Roma" to "Istanbul Bashakshehir" on loan. In the Super League, he scored one goal each against "Beshiktosh," "Alanyaspor," "Konyaspor," "Galatasaray," and "Kojaelispor," and scored a brace against "Antalyaspor."
Currently, the Turkish sports community considers Shomurodov one of the most effective and hardworking strikers of the current season.
