Hiddink: Akinfeyev is a Goalkeeper Hungry for Victory

The Dutch coach Guus Hiddink, who managed the Russian national team from 2006 to 2010, reflected on his time working with goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev. During the 2008 European Championship, the team reached the semifinals of the tournament.

“Akinfeev has always stayed in my memory as a kind person with a winning mentality. I really liked him as a football player.

Physically strong and capable of saving any shot aimed at the goal,” Hiddink said in an interview with Sport24. Akinfeev appeared in 110 matches for the Russian national team, conceding 95 goals.

Since 2003, he has exclusively played for the Moscow-based CSKA club.
